LEVEL 1 CD-ROM

Level 1 is most appropriate for beginning readers. This means the student:   1) does not have the concept of sounding out words   2) may or may not know all of the consonant sounds   3) does not know the vowel sounds or the concept of silent e   4) may read some words by sight, but has a limited reading vocabulary   5) may or may not know how to form the lowercase letters There is a section in the beginning that teaches the alphabet and how to form the lowercase letters when writing. This section is for the very young student. The Games section at the end of Level 1 acts as a "test of skills". In the Sounds into Words section, each skill learned builds on previous lessons. Each lesson contains games to review the skills and is followed by an animated story that uses the vocabulary. The emphasis is on "blending" sounds into words using consonants and short vowels and moving on to long vowels and Jake Snake's silent e. Level 1 contains 63 vocabulary words and 11 animated stories. Level 1 is most often used for 4 to 6 year olds, but has been very successful with 7 and 8 year old, remedial students, English as a Second Language students and others with special needs.
